Paul Bulanyi: Espresso Mondo

This is Paul’s first solo CD album and it’s a gem. Paul got his first guitar when he was 11 and he genuinely hasn’t stopped playing since. Paul’s first musical love is the work of Django Reinhardt, the legendary French gypsy jazz guitarist and this album reflects that with seven of the tracks being in the Django style. There’s a lovely reworking of Misirlou – a tune popularised by Dick Dale in the Pulp Fiction soundtrack. Other tunes included on the CD are Django’s Montagne St. Genvieve and Impromptu, Paul Vidal’s LaGitane, John Lewis’ Django and two of Paul’s originals Tokin’ Gipsy and Sitting @ Gino’s.

If you love listening to beautiful guitar playing this CD really is worth your time.

Paul is an immensely versatile musician, with 8 years classical training and an ability to play with complete confidence across jazz, rock, blues, tango, klezmer, hawaiian, classical and just about everything else in between. He has played and toured with Monsieur Camembert, performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, in France and Japan.

Maurice Gainen: 7 Continents - Global Jams

This album features artists from all over the world brought together by Los Angeles based musician, composer and audio engineer Maurice Gainen. Maurice has done a terrific job with this CD, bringing together a cohesive album from a wide variety of artists, styles and studios.

Bellingen musician Kristian Benton co-wrote Aboriginal Dreamscape with Maurice for the album. Kristian sings and plays didge and clapsticks on the track. The drums in the composition are played by Kenyan musician Christopher Opwapo, recorded in Kenya. Maurice plays saxophone, flute and keyboards.

There are 38 guest artists on the album – musicians from Argentina, Kenya, Australia, USA, France and Indian. Unusually for this sit there are three sample tracks to listen to so that you can get an idea of the album’s diversity without me having to laboriously explain it using words – such an inadequate medium for describing music!

Track list and composers: Sudamericana (M.Gainen), Aboriginal Dreamscape (M.Gainen/K.Benton), Help Me Sing This Song Of Joy (M.Gainen), Adios Nonino (Astor Piazzolla), Ngiyekhaya (Mxolisis Sithole/Sthembizo Zuma), L’ete En Hiver (M.Gainen/ Michael Bialys), Brahana (Aloke Dasgupta), Chasing The Light (Aloke Dasgupta/M.Gainen), Just Do Something (M.Gainen), Mergapati (Procession), Antarctic Sunrise (M.Gainen/Douglas Quin).
